CHOIR STICK MICROPHONE (#CSM-40x, #CSM-60x) GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The CSM-60W and CSM-40W series WIRELESS Choir Stick Microphone (CSM) offers the ability to use wireless technology for a totally portable choir configuration. The WIRELESS CSM provides the performance of an overhead hanging choir microphone by placing the microphone element above and over any choir application. Constructed of a black, space-age aluminum alloy, and fitted with over 2" of gooseneck articulation, both the 40" and 60" models are able to adjust to an exact placement requirement.
Using the provided adaptor cable, the WIRELESS CSM will plug directly into your Audio-Technica® wireless transmitter allowing the portable Choir Stick Microphone to transmit through your Audio-Technica® Wireless system. The provided W-Clip will secure your transmitter to your microphone stand, maintaining a low profile and neat appearance. This versatile choir microphone can be used in both WIRELESS or WIRED applications, expanding performance options dramatically.
The WIRELESS CSM mounts on any standard microphone stand with any taper body mic stand clip. ACE has developed our own Taper Body Clutch that allows the WIRELESS CSM to extend as needed for your specific application and will not become unbalanced or tip over even when fully extended (as shown to the right). Use the WIRELESS CSM for adult or children's groups on the stage steps, portable risers, or anywhere.
Featuring Audio-Technica's® miniature back-plate condenser elements, with four pick-up pattern choices, the WIRELESS CSM allows you to choose a tight pattern to improve isolation from other stage noise, or a wide pattern to pick up voices all around the microphone for use in theater or other production applications.
Each WIRELESS CSM is supplied with everything necessary for use with your WIRELESS or WIRED application. Choose one of four interchangeable condenser elements (see below). We'll include a W-Clip for securing your Audio-Technica® wireless transmitter to your stand, an A-T Adaptor Cable configured for use with your Audio-Technica® wireless system, a Taper Body Clutch, a Taper Body Stand Clip, and a A-T Power Module with UU-Clip (for use in wired applications).
The Output Connection Power Module for the Audio-Technica® Stick microphone is an Integral 3-pin XLRM-type, phased with Phantom Power Requirements of 9-52V dc, 2.0mA typical and an Output Impedance EIA rated at 200 ohms.

GENERAL INSTALLATION OF CHOIR STICK MICROPHONES (#CSM)
Ace Backstage Co.’s Choir Stick Microphone is a wide-range miniature condenser microphone designed for quality sound reinforcement, professional recording, television, and other demanding sound pickup applications. It requires 9V to 52 V DC from an external phantom power supply (usually provided by the mixer). A recessed switch on the power module permits the choice of flat response or low frequency roll-off to help control undesired ambient noise. Four interchangeable Audio-Technica® elements (Cardioid, Hypercardioid, Omnidirectional, and UniLine) are available to permit selection of angle acceptance from 90° to 360°.
AUDIO-TECHNICA® HYPERCARDIOID ELEMENT CHOIR STICK MIC CONFIGURATION AND INSTALLATION (#CSM-40W and #CSM-60W)

FIGURE 1 - Vertical Positioning of Hypercardioid Element
FIGURE 2 - Horizontal Spacing of Hypercardioid Element
Note: Figures 1 and 2 assume that the element in place is a Hypercardioid element (100°). The combination of small size and excellent response makes the Choir Stick Microphone ideal for choirs, instrumental groups, or theater stages. A uniform 100° angle of acceptance from the Hypercardioid element provides well-balanced audio pick-up. The microphone should be located forward of the front-most source (12”) and above the rear most source (approximately 88”), and aimed between them (Figure 1). Increasing the height of the mic above the sources will tend to equalize the sound levels between them, but may also increase the background/reverberant sound pickup. Whenever possible, the distance from the mic to the rear-most pickup should be no more than twice the distance to the front source, to maintain front-to-rear balance (Figure 1). Width of the pickup is approximately 2.5 times the distance to the closest performer.
If additional mics are needed for wide sources, they should not be closer together laterally than 2.5 times the distance to the front source, to avoid phase cancellation (Figure 2). This typical spacing is approximately 4 feet apart. To orient the mic element in the proper direction, bend the gooseneck housing until the desired location is found. Note: All Audio-Technica® elements will have somewhat different configurations depending on the element(s) being used. With the exception of the MicroLine Element (90°), all element configurations will have broader coverage patterns, leading to variations in the Distance “X”, the angle of acceptance (element polar patterns), and so on. Since applications may vary, please use this spec sheet as a guide. All drawings and measurements are for reference only.
